Tricky Droning!

Red19 Creative’s DJI Mini 4 Pro to the rescue!

We’ve had some pretty interesting requests lately so wanted to share out that Red19 Creative recently acquired the DJI Mini 4 Pro! This has been a lifesaver for some of those crazy shots! First we needed to fly in a very wooded area, track the drone alongside an actor riding a bike from only 4 feet away, and then leave room for client logos too. Our Mavic 2 Pro would be too large for the confined space, with many proximity alarms going off! Did I mention it was also windy that day and threatening rain, so we had to get the shot right and quick!

Our next request was to fly inside a mobile health unit, to show all its features in one shot! Definitely a job for our new Mini 4 Pro! Shot on a large soundstage, the drone needed to be navigated thru doors and around machinery to get that perfect flow shot!

Metra Spots

Creating a beach in Hawaii inside a Chicago studio for Metra!

Red19 Creative was tasked with creating spots that showed Metra trains racing past drivers stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, and then each driver needs to end up in a better location than their car! One to end up at a concert, one to end up at a beach in Hawaii. Shot over 2 days, we scouted the perfect location on a bridge that has a Metra train line running directly next to it. Of course we added adjacent cars and footage of the passing train thru the passenger window all in post. We shot in a parking lot near to the bridge to get the same lighting and background elements as would be on the bridge. Other shots all in-studio, a concert shot on a gimbal and beach setting on green screen. All shot with a Sony FX3 with prime lenses, using a gimbal for concert scene. Compositing done in both Nuke and After Effects, editing and color in DaVinci Resolve.

Speak Up: Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The Joint Commission asked us to create this fun and educational video as apart of their ongoing "Speak Up" campaign for Patient Safety and Advocacy. This video is seen at hundreds of hospitals, doctor offices and clinics nationally and internationally!

Red19 collaborated the The Joint Commission to write a script based on the sensitive nature of this important content. The goal was to show how people from all walks of life and ages need to be aware of their mental health needs, and to understand that that making sure that along with your physical health, your mental health is important and should not be ignored.

In order to make the characters relatable and have ultimate flexibility we use “Toon Boom Harmony” to both illustrate and animate. Working from a detailed storyboard, we illustrate all scenes prior to animation. All voice work is then recorded and mixed to-time to expedite animation. Animation takes several weeks, and then we do a final mix. Lastly we additionally create a Spanish version. The entire process takes approximately 10 weeks.

Thanks to the many people that helped on this one! Pat Bradley Toon Boom Harmony Illustration, Chris Wysoglad animation, Bryen Hensley of NoiseFloor for final sfx & mix, Voices of Kim Handysides, Sean Chiplock, Esteban Silva, Diana Silva, Shaunte Newby and Serra Hirsch!
